Today’s one of our favorite days of the year. It’s not a holiday (though we think it should be), and it’s not a day where most people get together with friends and family (though we at Occupy World Writes have been known to throw parties at which we watch the returns from the various races). Instead, it’s a day where you have the opportunity to exercise what might be your most important duty as an active citizen. That’s right – it’s Election Day, 2014 edition.

Hopefully you’ve researched the candidates to see which ones best meet the qualifications for who you want to represent you – or have you? Have you given up on the process? Do you feel that there isn’t anybody out there who will represent you, and you’re sitting out this time?

We’d like to hear from you. We don’t care how you voted, or if you voted. Leave a comment on this article. Tell us if you voted, and what were the important issues to you that helped you choose your candidate if you did vote. If you didn’t vote, tell us why, and what could be done to get you to participate next time.

You don’t live in the US? We’d love to hear from you, too. Leave a comment, and tell us what you thought of how our elections were covered where you are, and what you think of the way we have elections. Or maybe you’d like to talk about your most recent election; that’s fine, too.

If we get this conversation going among us, we can come up with ideas of what we need in candidates; people who will truly represent we the people, and not big money and corporate interests. The next Presidential election’s two years away; we can have an impact.

Our world won’t change on its own; we have to make it change.

I got ready for my day as usual. I stopped at my polling place on my way into work and voted. My particular polling place was depressingly quiet for the time of day, which was some time between 8 AM and 8:30 AM. I thought that there would be more people there to vote, but there were only four people at the check-in table and a couple more at the booths filling in their ballots. I hope that more voters show up throughout the day.
